Workshop description :
 
A Global Computing (GC) system is a worldwide distributed programmable infrastructure. GC  distinguishes from traditional distributed computing in terms of scalability, connectivity,  heterogeneity, and autonomy. In the GC context, important and new issues are given by the 
ability of dealing with dynamic and unpredictable changes of their network environment  (e.g. availability of network connectivity, lack of resources, node failures, network  reconfigurations and so on). At the same time, older problems - such as the expresiveness  and modularity at the level of programming languages  become more acute, in the sense  that the new technologies should reach new standards to allow us to cope with the  complexity and diversity that are implied by the emerging model of the GC. GC research  focuses on the study of systems compatible with the notion of GC. The most prominent  example is that of the Web space. In particular,  the growing complexity of the entire  collection of Internet services brings the need for a change in the view of the Web  space as just a database. Thus, it appears the opportunity to harness the available  computational power. In the emerging GC vision, the Web should become a programmable space.
 
The aim of GlobalComp 2009 is to bring together researchers interested on foundational  aspects and technologies for GC.

Topics:

 
We invite the submission of original scientific work  on the following list of topics which is not exhaustive:
 
I.   Models, semantics and logics for distributed and global computing
   - Process algebras, spatio-temporal logics, membrane system, virtual machines
   - Semantic techniques and domain theoretic models
   - Mobility, security, coordination, context awareness, remote control
II.  Languages, types and algorithms for distributed and global computing
   - Interactive programming languages
   - Semantic interpreters, type checkers
   - Proof-carrying code and certifying compilation
III. Paradigms and technologies for global computing
   - Peer-to-peer computing
   - Distributed content storage and delivery services and protocols
   - Computation on networks with highly dynamic topology
   - Multimedia content processing and communication in global computing context

Submission of papers:

We invite submissions in the form of:
        - full research papers (up to 8 pages, IEEE style)
        - short papers (extended abstracts, work in progress), system descriptions and software demonstrations (up to 4 pages).
 
Both full and short papers must be submitted electronically to:
        florin at cs.ubbcluj.ro
 
Papers will be refereed and accepted on the basis of their scientific merit and relevance to the Workshop topics.

Publication:

The extended abstracts of the papers accepted for presentation at GlobalComp 2009 will 
be available to the participants at the conference site. 
 
Papers accepted and presented at the workshop will be published as special issue in the Mathematics and Computer Science Annals of the West University of Timisoara (http://users.math.uvt.ro/~anmath/). Another possibilities of publication will be formulated soon after the workshop.
